Description

Deliciously coated candy apples that are perfect for festive occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith for tartness)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon green food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon pink food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 decorative candy hearts
  • pink and green edible glitters
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • green and black candy melts
  • pink fondant for lights (optional)
  • green card stock for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove the stems.
    • Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
  2. Make the Candy Coating:
    • In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    • Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
    • Bring to a boil without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
  3. Color the Candy Coating:
    • Remove the mixture from heat.
    • Divide it into two bowls.
    • Add green food coloring to one and pink food coloring to the other, stirring each well.
    • Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to each for flavor.
  4. Dip the Apples:
    • Dip half the apples in the green candy coating, swirling to cover evenly. Add a few drops of edible glitter before the candy hardens if desired.
    • Repeat with the pink coating for the remaining apples.
  5. Decorate the Apples:
    • Use candy melts to pipe drizzles or designs over the coated apples. Melt according to package instructions.
    • Add decorative candy hearts and any other desired embellishments before the coating sets.
    • If using fondant, roll it out and cut shapes for additional decoration.
  6. Set the Apples:
    • Place the decorated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Allow to cool at room temperature until the coating hardens completely.

Notes

  • Ensure the candy coating reaches the hard crack stage for a proper texture.
  • Be cautious when handling hot sugar syrup to avoid burns.
  • Experiment with additional decorations like edible glitter or sprinkles for extra festivity.
  • If the candy mixture thickens, gently reheat to regain a fluid consistency.
  • For a whimsical touch, use green card stock to create themed decorations to attach to the sticks.
