Description

A delicious Turkish meat pide with herbs, perfect for sharing with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 sachet (7g) active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 300ml warm water
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes). Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a skillet, cook the onion until translucent. Add the ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 10 minutes until the mixture is well combined and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh parsley. Let it cool.
  3. Assemble the Pide: Preheat oven to 220°C (430°F). Divide the dough into equal portions (about 4-6 pieces). Roll out each piece into an oval shape on a floured surface. Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the meat mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling slightly, pinching the ends to create a boat shape. Brush the edges with the beaten egg.
  4. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

  • For a more flavorful experience, you can add chopped green peppers or a pinch of chili flakes to the filling.
  • Serve with a side of tangy yogurt or fresh salad for added freshness.
  • Ensure the filling is slightly cooled before placing it on the dough to prevent it from becoming soggy.
