Description

A savory ground beef tomato sauce that’s perfect for pasta or as a base for other dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onions
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 4 ounces lean ground beef
  • 8 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds.
  2. Add the onions and garlic and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 8 minutes.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the sauce thickens, 25 to 30 minutes.
