Description
A savory ground beef tomato sauce that’s perfect for pasta or as a base for other dishes.
Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup chopped onions
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 4 ounces lean ground beef
- 8 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon dried basil
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds.
- Add the onions and garlic and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the sauce thickens, 25 to 30 minutes.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt if needed.
- Serve with pasta or use as desired.
Notes
- This sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- It can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
