Description
Delicious Korean-style cream-filled donuts, perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (not hot)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Neutral oil for frying (such as canola or sunflower oil)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Stir to blend. Add the warm milk, softened butter, and egg. Mix until a soft, sticky dough forms. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
- Let it Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Donuts: Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them on a parchment-lined tray. Cover loosely and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts: In a deep pot or fryer, heat oil to 325°F (165°C). Gently lower the donuts into the oil, a few at a time, and fry for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and let them cool.
- Prepare the Milk Cream: While the donuts cool, make the milk cream filling. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with condensed milk and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. It should be light, airy, and just sweet enough.
- Fill the Donuts: Using a knife or chopstick, make a small hole in the side of each donut. Transfer the milk cream to a piping bag fitted with a round or star tip. Pipe generously into the center of each donut.
- Dust and Serve: Lightly dust the donuts with powdered sugar before serving. For the classic Korean look, let some of the cream peek out from the center.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast.
- Donuts can be made ahead of time and filled just before serving for freshness.
