Delicious and festive cherry cake balls coated in white chocolate, perfect for the holidays!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box white cake mix (or homemade white cake recipe)
- 1 cup maraschino cherries (drained and chopped)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 12 oz white chocolate chips (or white candy melts)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Holiday-themed sprinkles (red and green)
- Whole maraschino cherries (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Bake the Cake:
- Prepare the white cake mix according to package instructions, or use a homemade white cake recipe.
- Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries before baking.
- Allow the cake to cool completely once baked.
- Make the Cake Balls:
- Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
- Add the softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Mix until fully combined and the mixture holds together when pressed.
- Form the cake mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Chill: Place the cake balls in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Coating:
- Melt the white chocolate chips or candy melts with the heavy cream in a microwave or a double boiler until smooth.
- Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated. Use a fork to remove and gently tap off excess chocolate.
- Place the coated cake balls back on the parchment paper.
- Decorate:
- Immediately sprinkle the holiday-themed sprinkles over the coated cake balls before the chocolate sets.
- Top each cake ball with a whole maraschino cherry.
- Set: Allow the chocolate coating to set completely before serving.
Notes
- Storage: Keep the cake balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 3-5 days.
- Flavor Variations: Experiment with flavored extracts like almond or peppermint for a unique twist.
- Chocolate Tips: Ensure chocolate is melted to a smooth consistency for even coating. If too thick, add a small amount of vegetable oil to thin it out.
- Presentation: For a more festive look, serve the cake balls in decorative mini cupcake liners.
