A delightful layered cake made with puff pastry, whipped cream, and mixed berries.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 sheets puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar (divided)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups mixed berries (e.g., strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
- 1 cup berry jam or preserve
- Fresh berries for garnish
- Lemon zest (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Puff Pastry Layers:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface until they are even.
- Prick the pastry with a fork to prevent it from puffing up too much.
- Place the sheets on baking trays lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool completely on a wire rack.
-
Make the Cream Filling:
- In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold in a handful of the mixed berries.
-
Assemble the Millefeuille:
- Place one puff pastry sheet on a serving plate.
- Spread a layer of berry jam or preserve evenly over the pastry.
- Add a layer of the whipped cream mixture on top of the jam.
- Repeat with the second puff pastry sheet, jam, and cream.
- Top with the final puff pastry sheet.
-
Decorate:
- Dust the top with the remaining 1/2 cup of powdered sugar.
- Arrange fresh berries on top for garnish.
- Optionally, sprinkle lemon zest over the top for added flavor.
Notes
- Ensure that all the layers are completely cool before assembling to prevent the cream from melting.
- For added flavor, you can incorporate a splash of berry liqueur into the whipped cream.
- Customize the fruit selection based on what’s in season or your personal preference.
- Use a serrated knife to slice the cake to prevent crushing the delicate layers.
