Description

A delightful layered cake made with puff pastry, whipped cream, and mixed berries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 sheets puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups mixed berries (e.g., strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
  • 1 cup berry jam or preserve
  • Fresh berries for garnish
  • Lemon zest (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry Layers:

    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface until they are even.
    • Prick the pastry with a fork to prevent it from puffing up too much.
    • Place the sheets on baking trays lined with parchment paper.
    • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Let them cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Make the Cream Filling:

    • In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
    • Gently fold in a handful of the mixed berries.
  3. Assemble the Millefeuille:

    • Place one puff pastry sheet on a serving plate.
    • Spread a layer of berry jam or preserve evenly over the pastry.
    • Add a layer of the whipped cream mixture on top of the jam.
    • Repeat with the second puff pastry sheet, jam, and cream.
    • Top with the final puff pastry sheet.
  4. Decorate:

    • Dust the top with the remaining 1/2 cup of powdered sugar.
    • Arrange fresh berries on top for garnish.
    • Optionally, sprinkle lemon zest over the top for added flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure that all the layers are completely cool before assembling to prevent the cream from melting.
  • For added flavor, you can incorporate a splash of berry liqueur into the whipped cream.
  • Customize the fruit selection based on what’s in season or your personal preference.
  • Use a serrated knife to slice the cake to prevent crushing the delicate layers.
