A delicious recipe for Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish Pastry made with puff pastry, cream cheese, and fresh blueberries.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- for dusting all-purpose flour
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- for dusting powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to the package directions. Lightly flour a work surface and gently roll out the puff pastry to smooth the seams.
- Cut and Shape: Cut each puff pastry sheet into 4 squares (total of 8 squares). Take each square and cut strips around the edges, leaving a small border.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until smooth.
- Assemble the Danish: Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square. Top with a generous amount of fresh blueberries.
- Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash.
- Bake: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the assembled pastries on it. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
- Frozen Blueberries: If using frozen blueberries, ensure they are thawed and patted dry.
- Flaky Pastries: To ensure the pastries rise well, keep all ingredients, especially the puff pastry, cold until you’re ready to use them.
- Cheese Mixture: You can add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cream cheese mixture for added flavor.
